While listening to the radio some time ago, I hear “Lady” by Styx.   The words reminded me of Lucius and Narcissa, especially during that tough year they spent as virtual prisoners in their own home when Voldemort took over Malfoy Manor.  The words are below:

— Styx

Lady, when I’m with you I’m smiling
Give me all your love
Your hands build me up when I’m sinking
Touch me and my troubles all fade

Lady from the moment I saw you standing all alone
You gave all the love that I needed
So shy like a child who had grown
You’re my…

Lady of the morning
Love shines in your eyes
Sparkling, clear and lovely
You’re my lady

Lady turn me on when I’m lonely
show me all your charms
Evenings when you lay down beside me
Take me gently into your arms
You’re my…

Lady of the morning
Love shines in your eyes
Sparkling, clear and lovely
You’re my lady

Two Portraits July 18, 2008

I wrote about two portraits on the wall of Lucius’ penthouse merely as a way to get my other favorite Jason Isaacs role into the story; that of Colonel William Tavington, from the movie, “The Patriot”. This was the role in which I first discovered Jason, so it will always remain in my favorites.

Colonel William Tavington
Lucius Malfoy’s squib ancestor

The other portrait of Rufus Malfoy, who is Lucius’ great grandfather, is based on Sir Rufus Isaacs (1860-1935), who was a prominent British lawyer and politician from the early 20th century. I saw a very striking resemblance to Jason Isaacs in two photos I’ve seen of Rufus Isaacs, which leads me to believe that this man is quite likely an ancestor of Jason’s. So, I used this chapter as an opportunity to show a real photo of one of Lucius’ ancestors that would actually look like him. Feel free to leave a comment to tell me if you see the same resemblance that I do.

A Few Notes About Lucius Malfoy’s Mother July 14, 2008

JK Rowling tells us very little about Lucius Malfoy’s father, Abraxas Malfoy.  He is mentioned once in HBP when Draco tells Slughorn that his grandfather had died of dragon pox.  And she tells us nothing at all about Lucius’ mother, not even her name.

As part of my goal of fleshing out his background as a method of giving readers better insight into his character and how he became a Death Eater, I felt it essential to introduce his mother into the story.  In a later chapter, I will also explore Lucius’ childhood relationship with his father, which I hope will give readers a better understanding of how Lucius came to be the man he is today.

Persephone Malfoy, though not an inherently evil woman, is nonetheless a deeply flawed woman, albeit not of her own doing.  Her flaws, however, served to contribute to a rather grim and unhappy childhood for Lucius, who was an only child.

I won’t say any more, as I don’t want to give away the entire chapter in this blog entry!

A Note About the Writing Process July 10, 2008

In her comment about Chapter 22, Velvet Storm mentioned the shower sex scene between Lucius and Hermione.

I have to admit that I’d not planned including that scene in this chapter.  But Lucius got horny while I was writing the chapter and so I ended up including it.  I’ve had this to happen many times before; a story taking a bit of a different direction than I’d originally planned, with the characters themselves seeming to suggest the path a story should take.

When I decided to write this story, I had a major theme I wanted to explore and a general direction I wanted to take, but I didn’t outline in any great detail, trusting that I’d find the way in the process.  It’s worked out pretty well so far, but I will admit, I still don’t have any clear idea where to end the story.  However, I think that will make itself evident once the story reaches a certain point.

I’d be curious to hear about how other fan fiction writers experience the writing process.

I thought that “inquiring minds” might like to see what Hermione and Lucius were wearing (or hurriedly slipped on!) when Molly came banging at the door!

Imagine this outfit in a purplish-mauve color.
And with a slightly shorter hem…

Imagine these bottoms in Slytherin green
And riding a bit lower on the hips…
And, of course, on Luscious Lucius!

Dirty Laundry July 1, 2008

An article about Lucius and Hermione by the journalist we all love to hate, Rita Skeeter, appears in Chapter 20.   I heard Don Henley’s, Dirty Laundry, on the radio the other day and thought it fit Rita perfectly.  Apparently, others think so as well, as there’s a YouTube video featuring Rita to the tune of this song.

Dirty Laundry
— Don Henley

I make my living off the evening news
Just give me something-something I can use
People love it when you lose,
They love dirty laundry

Well, I coulda been an actor, but I wound up here
I just have to look good, I dont have to be clear
Come and whisper in my ear
Give us dirty laundry

Kick em when they’re up
Kick em when they’re down
Kick em when they’re up
Kick em all around

We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who
Comes on at five
She can tell you bout the plane crash with a gleam
In her eye
Its interesting when people die-
Give us dirty laundry

Can we film the operation?
Is the head dead yet?
You know, the boys in the newsroom got a
Running bet
Get the widow on the set!
We need dirty laundry

You dont really need to find out whats going on
You dont really want to know just how far its gone
Just leave well enough alone
Eat your dirty laundry

Kick em when they’re up
Kick em when they’re down
Kick em when they’re stiff
Kick em all around

Dirty little secrets
Dirty little lies
We got our dirty little fingers in everybody’s pie
We love to cut you down to size
We love dirty laundry

We can do the innuendo
We can dance and sing
When its said and done we haven’t told you a thing
We all know that crap is king
Give us dirty laundry!
